Re: Recording volume very low...

I'm recording with a Rode NT1-A condenser microphone through a Zoom H6 recorder.
What happens if you record a short performance on the H6 with good H6 sound meters and transfer the sound file to the computer?

Re: What to do with non-talking track in interview?

You can also apply the Auto Duck effect to silence the other track when the person in one track is speaking and vice-versa. Again assuming they don't interrupt or talk over each other. Many of these advanced tools require surgical inspection of the whole show with good headphones to make sure the t...

Re: Passing the ACX test, BUT does it sound any good?

I see that ACX in their youtube videos say DO NOT USE DE-ESSERS! - amongst other things. They're also anti noise-reduction/removal.. Yes, they do. Their goal is natural, clear speech. My metaphor is someone telling you a story at the kitchen table over cups of hot tea. ACX is specifically trying to...

Re: Questions concerning Audacity and setting proper sound l

The only real place to set signal to noise is before the digitizer. After that, the noise floor is whatever the digital standard is that you picked. If you're in 16 bit, it's -96dB. So that takes you to the microphone and the microphone preamplifier. The MicPre. Microphone signal is insanely low and...

Re: What to do with non-talking track in interview?

Most people listening to an interview consider ping-pong sound, one person on the left and the other on the right to be distracting and annoying. Most people want to face the person talking, so ping pong could be very entertaining in a car. That means most interviews get mixed down to either mono, o...

Re: Clueless Newbie Question

It's an oversight. Get the blue waves you want in the middle of the screen using the zoom, play, scan, etc. tools, and Stop. The tools won't work from Pause. Click the blue wave and hold, drag sideways, let go. No keys. The area you selected should get darker, and you should be able to play just tha...

Re: Audacity recordings shorter than recording time

Does it still do that if you save and manage the work on the SSD—at least temporarily? USB connected drives and "Real Time" anything are not particularly compatible. USB drives have a terrible reputation on the video forums.

"How come my video is stuttering?"

Re: Trying to playback 32 channels to ASIO device

I have successfully configured Audacity and the ASIO driver on Windows
By that you mean you recompiled Audacity from the source code to support ASIO? As far as I know, that's the only way to make full ASIO work—someone will correct me.

Re: Newborn narrator

Thanks for the picture of your set up. One of my setups. That's a kit. Dump it in the back of my truck and go. I can make a sound studio in about 40 minutes. http://kozco.com/pix/oneWallKit.jpg http://kozco.com/pix/partiallyConstructedWall.jpg You don't have to do this at home. One woman poster tur...
