Re: Newbie to Tascam DR-05 - Poor Quality Sound
We can Help, but I'm pretty sure nobody here has one. How are you listening to the work? You are involving two different systems, record and playback. Cut a 5 second stereo or ten second mono WAV segment and post it here so we can listen. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=214897#p214897 ...

Re: Electrical noise on recording. C03U
Oh, we can tell you all about it. That's the "Yeti Curse" or "Frying Mosquitoes." It most often turns up when people plug a brand-new Blue Yeti microphone into their computer. It's not a particularly expensive microphone, so the maker is forced to leave out filtering and processi...

Oh, she's also missing the large gooshy sealed headphones that I bet she uses when she records.

Re: Un-Removable clicks in audio?
I have tried cutting out the "blips" however that seems to alter the tempo of the particular part of the track. Right. You have removed time from that track. That track will get to the end of the song before the others. If you roll the timeline to the right-hand side, the end, you will se...

Re: noise reduction
Between the two launchings, select the area you want to noise reduce, or the whole show by clicking just above MUTE. If you have a spoken word presentation, there are known good settings. 6, 6, 6; 12, 6, 6; or 18, 6, 6. Beyond that you need to fix your environment or recording technique. Also rememb...

Re: Stand-Alone Recorder
split the track and just use the better channel. Losing the goal and working too hard. I have the original shoot here. I think. Oh. Shucks. I can't post to my web page for a while. They're moving it. I need to make other arrangements. Just listening to the test again there is a 2 to 3 dB shift betw...

Re: New Level Meter Algorithms; Waveform Display?
Definitely not C16.5 VU meters. Very few meters ever conformed to the damping specification and those that did horrified people at how awkward they were to use. Best left in the archives as a curiosity. I'm surprised that more people don't adopt the rapid attack/slow decay BBC PPM style. I think the...

Re: phase metering in Audacity
It's the reason desk microphones can be a bad idea. The voice reflections from the desk can create hollow, phasing effects. Because they are actually phasing errors.

Re: phase metering in Audacity
Who is that announcer with those dulcimer tones? I've been wanting a phase meter for centuries, but yes, you are simply begging for trouble using identical tracks like that. If you play your cards right, you can get a frequency response like attached (comb filter) rather than straight, flat lines. T...
