Re: DECREASING AMPLITUDE ?
I don't want to abuse the forum consultation by asking too many basic things. We're not bashful. We'll tell you when you're being tedious and ridiculous. Select the whole track by clicking just above MUTE. The envelope tool is the two white arrows and bent blue line. That puts blue activity lines a...

Re: recording voicemails from iPhone to computer
It's not a setting. Headset systems tend to be aggressively non-symmetrical. Head phone signals are powerful stereo and microphone signals are tiny, very delicate mono. So no, you can't jam one into the other. That and what you probably did was connect the two headphones to each other and the two mi...

Re: Forensic audio file
Could this be as simple as viewing the two files one above the other on the timeline and one set of blue waves is bigger than the other? There is also an AudioBook loudness test. AudioBooks are required to maintain a certain loudness, so it's necessary to measure it. Select the whole clip by clickin...

Re: Background noise
Are you an old hand at recording? Using a "real" sound mixer isn't as simple as plugging in a USB microphone.

Re: Background noise
What kind of microphones do you have? I did a recent experiment with my Peavey and an SM58 rock band microphone. I got hum and buzz when I got the microphone or the microphone cable too close to the Peavey power supply or the power cable on the back of the mixer. Most mixers and sound equipment runs...

Re: Background noise
This is a little strange because the Peavey doesn't use the USB system for anything other than connecting sound to the laptop. It has its own power supply. There could be one other problem. Do you get the Peavey -21 and 0 sound meter green lights to come on when you record? I bet you don't. I bet yo...

Re: Windows 10, Did I stumble upon a fix?
You might wait until 2.1.2. 2.1.1 has some odd properties you may not like. I'm using 2.1.0 for daily use.

Re: Quits Randomly
Oh, and another problem, Audacity doesn't support Win10 yet.

Re: Quits Randomly
it just stops as if I'd click the stop button. Is it in actual Stop? The stop button goes from sunshine yellow with highlight and drop shadow in Record or Play to dull amber when you're actually in Stop. That would be good to know. I think Record Halt happens when Audacity loses the incoming data s...

Re: Forensic audio file
Audacity doesn't do forensics particularly well because it's a sound editor, not a WAV editor. If it's a choice between making an audio file mathematically perfect or making it sound good. We'll usually go with sound good. This drives the scientists nuts. "The bit structure four seconds in does...
