Re: What headphones best for editing? Regular or studio?
Fair warning, though. You should have a reasonably good system if you're going to do production for anybody else. It's your job to hear problems before the client does.

The soundcard in the computer is likely to have a low power amplifier, so you're going to run out pretty quick and it has the problem of on-board computer noise. When they sell you a new soundcard, they warn you clearly in the instructions to plug it...

Do you have a real stereo input connection?

Alternately, a 13" MBP whose single connection can switch?

Audacity has no end-user license other than the public GNU agreement.
That may be enough for them.

Re: Bring back Noise Removal
What values are you using? Noise Removal would not remove hiss from a spoken word recording, and so was of very limited use. If you have a good profile (noise only) I have found that 6, 6, 6; 12, 6, 6; and 18, 6, 6 will produce a quiet recording whose corrections are undetectable and more importantl...

Re: Volume levels on a live concert
If you do use the compressor, you will be trying to duplicate the attack and fall times and the gain values of the recorder. Some companies can do that. Dolby Labs made quite a name for themselves being able to compress and uncompress sound without you being able to tell what they did. It's not simp...
