Re: How to fix harsh default sound quality (when saved as mp
There is one other place to get MP3 distortion. Audacity export quality values only work if you start out with a perfect song. You got the music from an audio CD or you performed it yourself. If you got the work from another MP3, the real quality is the combination of the two MP3 files. So your 128 ...

Re: How to fix harsh default sound quality (when saved as mp
MP3 rearranges sound elements within a performance to make the file size come out smaller if it needs to. So if you pick a small file size and you have an almost overloading but not quite performance, you could generate a terrible sounding MP3. The MP3 will actually be in overload and clipping for r...

Re: Transferring 78 RPM Records - Buzzing?
Re. the stylus, I use a Shure78 that seems to work pretty well. Most of the world is determined to transfer 78s with an LP needle and that can cause physical distortion. Did you put the pressure back to the recommended value? Does that turntable have skating, tracking, etc, controls? That's the obv...

Re: Saving without having to exit after each change
The effects menus go gray if you're in Pause instead of Stop.if I make a change (using effects) and then want to use a different effect the effect menu is greyed out unless I exit the program and reopen.

Re: Playback through computer speakers
That's a little too scrambled. I am using a Zoom H2n recorder through a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 I can't think how you have that connected. The H2n has a USB connection and will stand-alone record. Why would you need the Focusrite? What's the goal? "I want to record my voice for a podcast." ...

Re: win7 microphone picks up sound
You may have two problems. Most Windows laptops are missing the Stereo Line-In connection that desktops used to have. Some have them all. I had a friend that has a large Lenovo laptop that had all three connections: Pink Mic-In, Green Stereo Headphone Out and Blue Stereo Line-In. Most Windows laptop...

Re: Have old Griffin iMic - should I use it?
I've always used the Stereo Line-In on my major projects.

I've had some bad experiences with the iMic. Mine is in the garage.

Re: Bring back Noise Removal
the problems may lie in my original recording. Post a piece of your raw performance. We may be able to help. This is a recipe for knocking together a sound test. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/TestClip/Record_A_Clip.html You can't post very long clips on the forum. Of course, if you have access...

Assume the Audacity main window is large enough, click and drag the bottom of the blue wave window down.

Re: audacity did not recognize the type of the file...
What happens when you double-click one of the AUP files (close Audacity first). That should open itself in a fresh Audacity without going through the File menu.
