Re: isolate a specific frequency
I think you're outta luck. Voices aren't one frequency. They're whole collections of pitches, tones, inflections and combinations, and they take up the whole middle of the range of audible frequencies. I have somewhere the analysis of one single piano note. It takes up over a third of the audible sp...

USB 2.0 jack and cable for transferring recordings to computer So all the USB command and control services are right there on the DR-40 motherboard. It's the USB Management signals ...

Audacity may think you want to do overdubbing. To tell it you don't, set in Preferences.
Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Recording [_] Ovderdubbing (de-select)

Re: Export as MP3 fails for unknown reason / infinite proces
What did you call the export name? If you used slash marks in the name (like in a date), Audacity is looking for a folder that doesn't exist. Use no punctuation marks at all in your filenames except underscore. It's also possible it's trying to export work to a full hard drive. That will take foreve...

Re: Replace Instrument in Digital Song
If the instrument is combined with other instruments in the song, then no. We can't split apart a song into individual instruments.

Re: New mic, new to Audacity, not new to music.
It sounded alright Then I'd leave it just the way it is. It's possible you're going to blow some bux and the voice isn't going to sound substantially better than it does now, and USB sound devices, particularly the cheap, inexpensive ones that don't cost a lot can have horrendous data whine and his...

Re: cursor only zooms in and out
You can slide your blue waves around manually with Shift-Scroll Wheel. That can help when you're zoomed in tight and just need to see a little before or a little later.

Re: cursor only zooms in and out
You might have a different problem while editing. Audacity can be set so the cursor can't fall off the end of the screen. Audacity will keep sliding new blue waves under it so it stays current. That can make you crazy when you're trying to edit because it has the effect of constantly flipping your e...
