Re: Strange waveforms in Audacity

It's not unusual for instruments and voices to be non-symmetrical. I can identify one local announcer almost without fail because their blue waves are off-center. So the bottoms may not be clipped. They may just not be there. Have you pointed all three microphones at one performer and then compared ...

That's the overdubbing tutorial. You can totally do overdubbing with what you have, you just can't hear yourself while you do it.

Re: Latency problem with mix board

There's two latencies. Recording latency is the one you can set in Audacity. That one controls how well your new tracks overlay the old tracks or guide tracks or click tracks. You have machine latency which generally can't be fixed. You are listening to how long it takes your voice to be digitized g...

Re: Looking for visual decibel meter

You can use existing Audacity. Control-Click in the top sound meters in Audacity 2.1.0 or 2.1.1 > Start Monitoring. They will wake up and meter the incoming sound without going all the way into record. It will do that for hours. Then, using the tiny guide strip on the left of the meter, detach it fr...

Re: Relationship between RMS and peak level

That's pretty common. Are you using "acx-check?" Is that the software you said you had at the top of the thread? There is a technique to manually read all three ACX specifications on your work, but it's pretty painful and time consuming. ACX Check gives you the whole pile in one swipe. htt...

Re: speakers no longer working

driver usb audio codex as the driver when I click on the speaker It probably shouldn't say that. A common problem is your computer is trying to send sound back out to the turntable. I bet if you unplug the turntable, all your sound will come back. You should set Windows playback to your normal soun...

Re: .AUP divorced from .AU files Need help!

I understand Audacity writes the AUP file last. What's the possibility you closed up shop before Audacity got done saving the Project?

Re: .AUP divorced from .AU files Need help!

I stopped and went about my merry way. Did "going about my merry way" happen to include Saving the Project or Exporting a WAV file? Did you not use those English words for a reason? That's a sore point. The order and names of the au sound snippets are random for a reason. I don't remember...
