Re: Keeping an exported file the same as an edited file

I hope you're using Clip Fix? Let's say you have a sound file where the peaks don't fit in the sound channel. They clip. Import the file into Audacity and fix each clip with the tools and the show sounds just fine because Audacity internal sound format doesn't clip. Now export the show back into the...

Re: tuning sound effects for theatre

See if any of this is useful. http://kozco.com/tech/clips/150926_SodaStraw.wav I'm not sure of the pitch of my straw, but you should be able to use Effect > Change Pitch, or Effect > Change Speed to change it. They're in WAV Stereo (not MP3), so you should be able to do production with them without ...

Re: tuning sound effects for theatre

Audacity tolerates MIDI...barely, so that's not a good avenue.

Air going through a straw doesn't make noise, so we need to deal with air going in or air coming out the other end. Describe the scene, including the hook to an earlier scene.

Re: Editing Tips b4 I grow old

I suspect the latest DeEsser never surrendered to formal posting and instructions. At least none that I could find. I can find pages of jargon and tech-speak. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=79278&hilit=deesser&start=40 I would have bet this tool was further along than...

Re: Editing Tips b4 I grow old

The goal of DeEsser and DeClicker is to take the harsh edge from your sibilants and plosives. SSister SSuzy SsellSS, etc. If you do that wrong, it will also remove the crispness from all the rest of the words. That's what's magic about a DeEsser as opposed to that overall, generic de-crisper I think...

Re: recording guitar on a laptop

Depends. Do you want to record the guitar, amp and cabinet, or just the guitar pickup connection? If you want to record the whole thing, you'll need a quiet room, good microphone, MicPre, digitizer, etc. If you just need the pickup, a Behringer UCA-202 will do that. A guitar pickup level is just slig...

Re: Editing Tips b4 I grow old

I heard that using de-esser's will change the sound quality Correct me, but you think the existing quality is bad, yes? So changing it is the goal. but I will try just portions of a chapter Certainly experiment and keep safety copies of your readings. Do I use the De-esser and mouth clicker (both e...

Re: Editing Tips b4 I grow old

I'm quite sure I am doing Something wrong. It's: Something Wrong. Two uppercase letters. Somebody I like writes like that. Yes, but maybe not what you think. Nobody should be editing every word through a several hour AudioBook or Podcast. We have another poster wondering about the best way to do th...
