The action label during recording, is Control + M or Command + period on Macs.

I applied Noise Reduction and Compression features. Were you following someone's recipe for audiobook production? Shift+U will turn Mute on and off. I wonder if there's a way to combine those two in a Macro.

whyis the amped version going into orange and red? The colors are not a guarantee of sound damage. They're a warning. Audacity has a couple of those. The timeline has View > Show Clipping . If you perform too loud, Audacity will place a red bar in the blue waves at the event. https://www.kozco.com/...
