Re: New technology giving me headache.

If your recording is to the right of the original sound (as in my picture), then you should add negative numbers to the preference value. Keep careful track of the timing readings. If your corrections make it worse, go the other way. That happened to me once. I got the positive/negative numbers wron...

Post the raw sound. Do Not send clips you already tried to clean.

Re: Background noice reduction problem

She tells me the file hasn't been cleaned up 'good enough'. She's going to have to tell you a lot more than that. The words "clean up" in a forum posting is usually the kiss of death. That means the sound in the files is not recoverable. Background noise, peak distortion, garbled words, e...

Re: How Do I Add more RIAA Curves?

You don't import that directly. The equalizer tool uses XML files to "contain" the instructions and the instructions should be relatively complete. I'm not sure what would happen if you installed a single point instruction. Steve wrote a voice filter that's handy for getting rid of rumble ...

I did better illustrations. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/lavalier-EighthInch-ToXLR.jpg http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/LaptopMixerMicrophone.jpg I don't actually use the little silvery audio to USB adapter when I do it because my Macs have a terrific stereo connection built-in. But that's a...

Re: Recording noise getting worse... not better

You may have hit it. I'm reading back thorough the last couple of postings. "This is position one" in your last clip has clear white noise (and nothing else) and can be made to pass ACX testing with moderate corrections. So the motor noise appears to be coming up through the furniture from...

Re: Recording noise getting worse... not better

Being professionally obsessive, I would just plug in my second Snowball and cable. And yes, I do have two computers if needed. My older one has screen problems which do not affect sound.

Re: Recording noise getting worse... not better

The instruments agreed with me. Microphone noise tends to have a signature because it's caused by random molecular motion, yadda, yadda. The point is, it's graceful and predictable when measured. You have some of that, but you also have concentrations of noises typical of something physical such as ...

Re: Transforming Voice for security

spoken by an actor. That's if Hollywood is doing it, but you can get just anybody that can read to do it. There's a trick to that, too. With a little practice, you can speak the exact words someone is presenting into your headphones about a word or two late. After you get the swing of it, you can s...

Re: Transforming Voice for security

... there any methods for doing this? Short answer, no. For the same reason it's a terrific job to transform people's voices into each other (we can't do that, either), it's really rough to transform a voice into trash so that the trash is still understandable, but not trackable. As has been posted...
