I think it's Desktop > Window > Zoom. That should force a correct positioning of the window. Then you can click zoom again to get a smaller window.

Macs have no natural ability to record themselves. Haven't for years. I use the add-on program SoundFlower.

Audacity doesn't do anything in real time. The effects only work in post production. Record the guitar and then apply the effects later.
