Re: How to make vocals of a live performance more clear.
Compression damage is sneaky. The camcorder probably had DV or MP4 compression and you converted it to MP3 compression. If you convert back to either of those, that's three. Koz

can sometimes improve intelligibility by boosting the "T" and "S" sounds. There are no S and T sounds. That's the problem. What would you consider a higher quality audio file? Something where the recordist got a feed from the house mixer. Nobody ever goes away from a club or a c...

Re: Problems with Left/Right Channels: always plays both
Works for me. I start with a stereo show. Tracks > Stereo Track to Mono. Then with the drop-down menu on the left > [X] Left Channel. Play it and it only appears on the left. The show is a single blue wave. Now, when I export a WAV, Audacity converts the work to stereo with a dead right channel . It...

Re: Audacity moves the audio track after finishing recording
I think Overdub does that. Do you have Overdubbing selected in Edit > Preferences > Recording? Does it still do that if you deselect it?

Oh and strike three. Never do production in MP3. MP3 is a compressed medium and it creates its own sound damage on top of the ratty performance.

Re: How to make vocals of a live performance more clear.
There's no actual words there to rescue. If you told someone to listen and they didn't already know what the lyrics were (like me) you would never pick them out of the performance. If they're that far gone, Audacity isn't going to help you. We don't do well splitting a performance into individual vo...

Re: New boy cannot play a WAV file
I'm betting it's not actually a WAV file. Windows likes to hide filename extensions, so unless you specifically changed a Windows setting, you should not see some_filename.wav . You would see it as some-filename . I would also be surprised if a camera recorded a WAV file. You can extend Audacity's a...

Re: file name problem
You can get filename insanity if you like to put punctuation marks in. Dates are classically troublesome. Today is 2015-11-10 (ISO version). Dashes-and-underscore_are_OK. Avoid anything else.

Re: Crack sound problem, when recording speaking
It's really difficult to analyze a brief hit in the sound with a one second clip. We believe you that it doesn't happen during the silent segments, so please record a normal volume 10 or 11 second voice clip and post that.
