Re: Updated mastering chain
So sorry. Is that clip the raw recording? It's suspiciously quiet. Anyway, I got it to pass ACX with minimum of processing. I took a little of the theatrical expression out with Effect > Compressor and that let me change the overall volume to bring in all three measurements (attached). Before and Af...

Re: Recordings on playback choppy, skipping
Most of the time that happens when your computer is busy doing multiple things or the drive fills up, or both. Do you use a lot of programs and leave them napping in the dock? That will slow the computer down. Close things you're not using, or restart the Mac and don't start anything else until you'...

Re: Advantages/Disadvantages of converting
Strike one was doing production on an already compressed original work. Almost no matter what you do, the new, edited work isn't going to sound as good as that. Because of the way Audacity works, you always get two compressions and the sound damage is a combination of those two. You can Get Out Of J...

Re: Debug Error
You should tell us what kind of Mac you have and which system. I'm guessing Mac because you got a Spinning Beach Ball of Death. Which Audacity? Don't abbreviate the numbers. What were you doing, in detail? It can sometimes make a difference if you tried, for example, to export an 18-hour WAV file. Koz

Even though it's not my plugin. It was developed by flynwill and is based on modules, tools and plugins written by others. Promoted by me. Lots of blame to go around.your plug-in was a real Godsend!

Re: Extract percussion from song
A pass through AC3 compression will produce a digital celebrity not related to anything else. We warn people never do production in MP3, but really it's any compression format. They are end-products designed for customer enjoyment and generally contain "gotchas" making them unsuitable for ...

Re: Low sound from headphones and no sound from microphone w
I have tried switching the direct monitoring to both on and off. The only difference is the guitar seems a little louder on one than the other through the headphones. Do that again with Audacity off. You may be listening to one of the Audacity sound settings in addition to the direct guitar. That w...

Re: low sound after recording
Audacity has graphics to tell you the proper volume during recording (attachment below). The bouncing sound meter should, on occasion, make it up to -6 on the graph and the blue waves underneath it should look about like the illustration. The blue waves will change with the quality of your voice, bu...

Re: Low sound from headphones and no sound from microphone w
Line port for a Shure SM58 microphone It's not clear from the labels, but that's not exactly what you did. When you connect a 3-pin XLR microphone like the Shure SM58 to a 2i2, that connection automatically switches to a highly sensitive microphone connection. It's really Mic-In, not Line-In or Ins...

Re: Low sound from headphones and no sound from microphone w
Reading between the lines of the instructions (I hate it when they do that), the 2i2 has built-in mixing for the live performance and the computer playback. Switch Direct Monitor on to get both sounds in your headphones for overdubbing/sound-on-sound. Does the existing track playback sound OK if you...
