Re: Extract percussion from song
Is there any portion of the mixed performance where the drummer stops, however short? Having constant drumming in the mix pretty much precludes any convenient inspection tool and no simple/quick effects tools work for me any better than you, although I should be able to get some affect. It's suspici...

Re: Audacity stops working
I remember. It was Memtest or MemCheck or something like that. Memory tester, not drive tester, although it would turn up problems all over the machine because the rest of the machine had to be in top condition to pass as well. I'm assuming you did the first level activities like restarting the mach...

Re: low sound after recording
I'm describing sound jobs that have to interact with other people or companies so standards and interchangeability are important. If your application doesn't have to do that, you may not have to be surgically accurate in your voice volume.

Re: low sound after recording
Is there away to keep the New Peak at a-1 No, but the absolute need to use Amplify usually means the live recording is too quiet. Pick a performance and tell me about where the sound meter is bouncing before you applied Amplify. Like I posted above, your live recording sound meters should be bounci...

Re: latency in headphones while recording
am hearing my voice half a second behind me Yes. That's correct. That's machine latency. The time it takes for your voice to get into the computer "normally," turn around and come back out again. I illustrated three different ways to stop that by listening to the recording hardware instea...

Re: low sound after recording
First, confirm you're in Audacity 2.1.1. There are "latest" Audacity programs which are not supported. Help > About? Your Audacity is going to be slightly different from mine. 2 different laptops. Describe them. Which Windows? I went to Effect > Amplify You didn't say you selected the whol...

Re: Audacity stops working
Describe your machine. Which Windows? How much hard drive space do you have? Windows XP, for example has no provision for auto defragmenting and a highly fragmented drive can become profoundly unstable. Isn't there a drive check you can do? I'm remembering there was a check you can do multiple times...

Re: Updated mastering chain
To pass AND sound great? I note carefully reading that again that's not what I did. I got it to pass, I used the minimum processing to get there and the sound is nearly exactly the way you shot it. If you're not happy the way you shot it, that's a different problem. Now we're into "sweetening&...

Re: Using Audacity to find out the average frequency of a so
Not that I know of. I can't help thinking that analysis would always come out the same number, or very close to it. For the same reason an actual Plot Spectrum would almost always come out a fuzzy haystack, the middle of the haystack would always be in the same place. This is the same idea of people...
