Re: Saving a file
While the show is in Audacity, it's only one thing. When you Save a project is when it becomes a matching AUP file and a _DATA folder. The show is one of each and that combination can only be opened up by Audacity. It has nothing to do with making a CD. Audacity will not Save a sound file. Double cl...

Re: OS 10.9 Audacity 2.1.0
It's not a power problem. USB has notoriously sloppy data management. Most USB hubs for example will not pass a simple live audio stream if the hub is shared with anything else, such as a mouse. Stutter City. Distance can make a difference. Larger computers can have different characteristics between...

Re: Newbie needs help with fixing saturated audio
Type out the words and get her to read it I'm not making that up. Not all motion picture live shoots result in good quality sound. A significant portion of the movies you see have picture from the shoot, but voice from a studio sound room shot two weeks later. That is an advanced technique, yes. It...

Re: OS 10.9 Audacity 2.1.0
Correct my entire post. It's a FireWire drive, right? You moved the files to the new machine and then they wouldn't play? I'm guessing you're trying to play the files live on a USB powered drive connected to an underpowered USB port. Or worse, a USB hub. In videoland we strongly discourage live prod...

Re: OS 10.9 Audacity 2.1.0
What happens? Say I put an AUP file and the _DATA folder of a project I made on Sally over to a FireWire drive and move the drive to Johnny. Move the file and folder to Johnny. I expect Audacity 2.1.0 to open the show just fine. Where did that description go off the rails and what exactly happens du...

Attached pix: Turn on View > Show Clipping. All those red areas are overload and permanent damage. The attached sound file is brute force patching. I reduced the volume slightly and muffled everything with Low Pass Filter. At those settings, the crisp, crunchy goes away, but it turns the interview i...

Re: burn cd with music/narration/special effects
But don't lose all your original clips and segments. Once you mix down to a single show, you can't unmix it. copy your final production to a CD with your CD burning software. That's if you want a Data CD. Data CDs are little flat hard drives. You can put any files on there you want, but older music ...

Popping. You can get rid of P popping with a blast filter. That's the black tennis racket looking thing just in front of the microphone. Highly recommended. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/wynonna2.jpg http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/LaptopMixerMicrophone.jpg So that's it. Once you get all the lev...

Re: Podcast Audio Quality Feedback
The point of the three places to set volume: Gain or Trim. This is where you set the volume to make the basic mixer strip happy. All the knobs in one vertical stripe. If it's too low, you can get hiss. If it's too high you may get the red overload light near the bottom.......ummmmm .....you don't ha...
