Re: Adding Click Track by Tapping - Tempo varies
find a drum kit on a MIDI keyboard and tap along with the song. While that may give you a warm feeling, Audacity doesn't understand MIDI. Either there needs to be a MIDI to Audio conversion in the middle somewhere, or you need to take steps to record the keyboard audio out. My keyboard only has a h...

Re: Assign RAM as Temp file
The only way I know of to get a speed bump with spinning metal is shared array, but that usually takes a special controller. Then you need matching drives, interleaving standards, etc. Far easier to use an SSD. I tell the parable of two laptops. One of the guys at work and I had sister laptops and t...

Re: Podcast Audio Quality Feedback
That's valid. That's probably the slight grittiness I complained about. Is this better? (attached) I created a filter to suppress the slight harshness in your voice. Also enclosed the graphic version of the filter (so you can see what it's supposed to look like) and the data package so you can insta...

Re: error opening sound device
Both the blue and pink ports are meant for sound input into your PC. Unless they're not. We got a series of soundcards at work that didn't conform to the colour standard. They drove everybody nuts until we figured out the colour conversion. Also I have a fancy surround soundcard in a PC that has ma...

Re: Creating a 4-track (5.1) file able to be played on DVD.
My impression of DTS was that of a "fake" system. An extension of those systems briefly popular centuries ago which would produce Quad Surround Sound ® magically out of a stereo show. It always gave engineers a bad taste because it wouldn't pass standard engineering sound tests. It was an ...

Re: Recording appears to use laptop microphone and not line-
Be careful not to bottom feed too much. Super cheap USB adapters as illustrated in the post are typically duplicates of the laptop connections you already have and can have noise problems where USB data leaks into the sound.

Re: Audio throughput
In fuzzy general terms, the machine speaker system is getting its signals from "Everywhere" rather than just picking a specific thing like play the sound from FireFox or Play the sound from Audacity. There used to be a specific setting for that called What-U-Hear or Stereo Mix. I think tha...

Re: Audio throughput
On the Dell laptop, I get audio throughput with or without Audacity in recording or playback mode. Close Audacity. Do you still get Playthrough? It's a certain bet that the soundcard is different between the two machines. Control of the soundcard is what gives you tricks like Self-Recording, Record...

Re: Podcast Audio Quality Feedback
I think we're good to go. Whatever you're doing right now is clear, natural, about the right volume and has very little background noise. So this is baseline. Whatever you do from here has to maintain this quality and still do what you want. You don't hear any background hiss, do you? Most people ca...
