Re: relative quality from recorded or converted audio
In Maine? New Hampshire? I don't know of any way to say that this clip "was encoded at quality 64." Particularly since, as in your case, the sound may have been compressed multiple times. Any test we might do tell may only tell you the last encoding, if it worked at all. The only semi-defi...

If you're on Windows, you might try VoiceMeeter.

Re: Need Help Recovering File I Did Not Save
I think once you close Audacity gracefully (not crash), that's the end of the temporary files. Well-behaved programs clean up after themselves. There are "UnDelete" programs, but I've never seen one for Win10 (doesn't mean there isn't one). UnDelete only works when you have not done anythi...

Re: Sounding like GarageBand
Post some of both. Make two clips, one natural sound and one with the enhancement, each about ten seconds in WAV (Microsoft). Scroll down from a forum text window > Upload Attachment. Audacity high quality, uncompressed setting default is always WAV (Microsoft) because it's accepted on all three com...
Re: Scrubbing
Still looking. I know video editors (bowing deeply) are horrified that we can't just grab the cursor and go screaming off down the timeline and have the show follow us in Donald-Duck Speak, forward and back. MUMUMUMUM eeeeeeeeee dududududududud bibibibibibibibibi [Mark-In] And etc. I think a video e...
Re: Scrubbing
Audacity doesn't have classic video editing. On the up side, Audacity is not limited to frame boundaries, so we have that going for us. It doesn't have Edit Markers, either. We have Labels. You can park as many labels as you want. They appear on their own track and they're sticky or magnetic. http:/...

Re: Hard Limiter gone?
You can install Audacity 2.1.0 from here: http://www.oldfoss.com/Audacity.html Scroll down to the version selector > 2.1.0. If you install both just right, the older limiter may show up in the newer Audacity. This is part of the Effects Manager. Scroll down to "Manage." http://manual.audac...

Re: Hard Limiter gone?
I think the rational was that one of the types in the new tool should do the same thing, although it doesn't say that in the instructions. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/limiter.html I use more than one Audacity version and you may be able to as well. I'm not sure how it's done on Windows. I'm...

Re: Helping naming and fixing my audio recording issue
That's not to say you can't have a dull-sounding microphone. I have a lavalier which works like that, even though they're not supposed to. You can brighten it up with either Effect > Bass and Treble or if you really want to mess with it, Effect > Equalization. Switch Equalization to Graphic Eq and i...
