Re: settings for macbook air
picking up my surroundings. You are recording your built-in microphone. Macs have no natural ability to record themselves. I use the SoundFlower software program to "turn around" the speaker sound and make it available for recording. This can mess up live listening, so using it is a bit o...

Re: hint: check stereo if you are not getting input
Thanks for the note. There was a recent post about some devices and interfaces supporting both stereo and mono, and other devices which can seem dead if you choose the wrong one. I have a headset USB adapter which will not cross. Get Stereo/Mono setting wrong and it just doesn't work. The Behringer ...

Re: Audio Not Recording
Turns out my finger must have slipped and changed the microphone input on the toolbar You should pay attention to that. Maybe it's not you. As above, that can happen if you have something wrong with the USB connection. "Every time I move the USB cable a little, Audacity goes nuts....." Koz

Developers have a condition they call "moon phase errors." Sometimes, one developer/programmer will report a portion of a process might fail...every 28 days. Or not.
That's when you get good at laying traps. Divide the process into segments, etc.

in the same folder that the original files came from. Where did the original files come from? Desktop? My Music? If Audacity experiences a permissions issue ( I'm not allowed to write files here ) chains will fail. You can also have very energetic virus protection that's eating your new files as th...

Re: RMS Normalize
Sounds like a job for your PAF effect. Yes, or the follow-on tool CleanUp®. It's been my experience that many people start with my personal recommendation of Normalizing the peaks to 3.2dB and then find that the RMS level is too low. That's endemic bordering on epidemic. Given RMS Normalize will re...

Reinstalling doesn't reset Audacity. To make Audacity start from zero, you have to reset preferences with an option part-way through the install.Used the EXE installer and tried uninstalling reinstalling once so far.

Re: Audacity 2.1.1 stops recording but not frozen
just decided to stop on its own. It can do that if Audacity stops getting data from the microphone. Laptop? Try recording from the built-in microphone just as a test. Even money says the system keeps recording. If you are a vigorous user of a single USB port, you could have a worn connector. They d...

We can probably start with which Audacity, all three numbers, Which Windows, and what exactly you're trying to do. "I sung a song into Audacity and now I'm trying to save it as an MP3 to the desktop." Something like that. You can't drop us into your problem mid-stroke. Nobody can follow th...
