Re: Need to make music quiet & voice loud, both on same trac
Noise Reduction only works on constant sounds generally quieter than the desired performance. Microphone hum, air conditioner compressors, computer fan noises. It doesn't work on conversations or music. Also, Noise Reduction is not one thing. It's a sliding scale. It always affects both the noise an...

Re: Need to make music quiet & voice loud, both on same trac
We can't take apart a mixed performance into individual instruments and voices, fix it, and put it back. So that's a reshoot. Is it a stereo show? There is one possibility of rescue and then only if you wired the microphone wrong. Drag-select about 8 seconds of the show featuring both music and voic...

Re: ADJUST VOLUME ON CERTAIN PORTIONS OF A VOICE RECORDING
YES, AND YOU CAN START BY NOT SHOUTING IN THE FORUM!!! Most people complain that the guest is too low rather than the interviewer is too loud. While the show is on the Audacity timeline, drag-select your voice segments one at a time and reduce their volume using tools such as Normalize or Amplify. A...

Re: Uniform volume level across four song EP
I don't know if we hit this or not, but are you the artistic performer? Most store-bought music has been processed to appear louder than it was during the performance. This is the "Loudness Wars" thing. Someone records their performance following all the rules, but when they compare the wo...

Re: Uniform volume level across four song EP
I bet you were hoping for: "Here. Push this button." Loudness Control can approach a religious war. So that's two votes for adjust them by ear and make sure the loudest one doesn't overload or distort. I don't want people reaching for the volume ReplayGain, or the related MP3Gain or WAVgai...

Re: Using Sound Activation to split tracks
It would be very convenient to set the sound activation It would, wouldn't it? The problem with vinyl is the space between tracks isn't silent. It has pops, clicks and cat hairs in it. Analyze > Silence Finder Analyze > Sound Finder. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/sample_workflow_for_lp_digit...

Re: Uniform volume level across four song EP
"Normalize" has really good Name Recognition, but Normalize and its sister Amplify just turn the volume up or down once per song, or once for whatever you select. Nothing automatic about any of them, and neither of them has any idea what the content is. You can do what you want manually wh...

Re: Track won't play back when i press record
Overdubbing? Edit > Preferences > Recording [X] Overdub (select). Edit > Preferences > Recording [_] Playthrough (de-select). Make sure you're recording from your actual hardware microphone or other sound device, not Stereo-Mix, What-U-Hear, WASAPI, or any other software service. If you like recordi...

Re: Static in podcast
Are you close to an amateur radio operator? One of these on a roof-top (attached)? I'm a comfortable walk away from three of them in opposite directions. I swear I can almost get English words out of the pattern of on-offs in your noise. It's probably that thing where your head makes up patterns whe...
