Re: New track is recording playback track during overdubbing
Edit > Preferences > Recording: [X]Overdub .... should be the only thing selected. Audacity Device Toolbar should be pointing at your microphone or soundcard, not Stereo Mix, What-U-Hear or other "fake" software devices. If you like recording on-line YouTube sound tracks, that's the exact ...

I'm out. Something happened to file associations. We need to wait for a Windows elf.

Re: Saving Files?
And Windows insisted the file was test file 1, an Adobe PDF file? If you double click it, does it try to open in Adobe Reader?

Re: Serious drift problem during podcast recording
Split recordings are recommended because as you found, they can sound tons better than trying to clean up a Skype or Chat session. The down side is that drift thing. If you have a long show, chances of everybody's computer running at exactly the same speed is zero. Usually, you can figure out a corr...

Re: Saving Files?
What did you call it? What's a typical filename—exactly. You know Windows is not going to show you MyFile.wav , right? It's going to hide the filename extension unless you told it not to MyFile. You can also get into serious trouble with punctuation marks inside filenames. Use ISO dates: 2016-01-18,...

Re: Would love to get some help on this project
I loaded the original file (mp3 format) and then duplicate the file. OK. Stop. Was it Mono? One line of blue waves when you opened it? I'm not clear on the specifications, either. It appears at first pass they want a stereo show with exactly the same thing on both sides. But that's what they compla...

Re: Noise Elimination
for some reason it did not work. A forum posting will only support about five seconds of stereo and ten of mono. You can't upload a whole album or cassette. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=72887 "thumping" or "popping" sound. Constantly changing foreign so...

Re: Recording on external drives
You have very fuzzy computer management. Never leave a show hot while you go to lunch and never do machine maintenance with any programs running.
Win. 7 will cheerfully defrag itself. I think you have to leave it up all night. There is a trick to it. Don't leave a show hot all night.
