Most soundcards have anti-aliasing filters to keep them from going beyond audibility (20KHz). You might be able to find and buy a USB connected soundcard that is listed for higher frequencies. I am sure I am missing it. I'm pretty sure you're not. That's a version of scrubbing that Audacity can't do quite right yet. You can set Audacity to flip screens as it plays. I think that's as close as we get. Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Tracks: [X] Update..... My old Cool Edit (Adobe Audition)...

Where do you get stuck? If the Mac can't find the sound, that's full stop until we find out why. Audacity gets its sound from the Mac.

The only sure way around this is Printed Text Readers and simply have someone else read it behind you.

Even that's going to fail if you like to use certain words and phrases. Somebody familiar with your writing style is going to catch on.
