Re: Restoring Echoey Room Audio

Oh, noise we can do (attached). You're stuck with the echo. I did not have a very good sample or profile for the Noise Reduction, so I think you can do better than I did. I'm in Audacity 2.1.2. I selected the whole thing and Effect > Normalize: -3dB and Remove DC. I drag-selected the pause area arou...

Re: Best equipment to use with Audacity

And that is precisely why the ACX Robot tests for noise and peak distortion and overall volume. It doesn't count if you have a terrific noise floor, but your show has to be boosted 15dB to be heard. That's also a good place for the ACX Check tool instead of Contrast. It gives you all three numbers i...

Re: Exporting STEMS but Audacity not keeping original length

One way is to make a silent track on the bottom longer than anything else. Select that plus the desired track and File > Export > Selected. Audacity will create a mixture of everything you selected at the length of the longest track. That will also solve the gap problems in Time Shift Tool, although...

Re: Best equipment to use with Audacity

It's just that I use good equipment in several different configurations in a quiet room and I've never gotten better than -70s. Let's say you're getting 12dB lower noise than I am. Sound goes in half every 6dB. So that's a significant change. And again, that's not to say you can't do that, just that...

Re: Extracting Instrumental line

after accurate alignment
It's not just alignment. You have to get the volume right, too. That's the volume sliders to the left of the track. You should be able to get tunnel or honky sound, but I don't think you're going to get cancellation.

Re: Extracting Instrumental line

Are they both MP3 clips? MP3 gets its small, efficient files by remixing the show sound. It's clever about it, but the two voice tracks aren't the same. Cancellation demands surgical accuracy between the two tracks and that's not something MP3 does very well.

Re: To cut or to shrink, that is the question

All those and you can drag-select a portion of your show and silence it with Control-L. That will produce a dead silent portion where the offending sound used to be and the exact same size. If you have a natural amount of background noises, silence can sound a little weird— bullet holes in the show....

Re: How to avoid clipping but keep details

3/4" (20mm) pressed fiberboard is a good idea. Place it so that there are no parallel walls or perfect corners. Throw something fuzzy on the floor. Don't forget a directional microphone is aimed at your head...and the wall behind you. Put a towel or blanket on the desk. http://kozco.com/tech/au...

Re: Clicking noise - only on one side of an audio tape

All grand ideas, but the poster flips the tape over and the problem goes away. And that was very specifically the condition I asked about. As I see it, we have enough information for a mystery movie plot, but not enough to solve the problem.
