Re: Help with Nyquist filters
That's the "Q" or quality value of the filter. Effectively, the steepness or efficiency of the sides of bandpass or characteristic. So if there's a Q value in the programming instructions, that's what it does. You can get a much better idea faster for what's happening by generating white n...

Re: I need to split a MP3 file into tracks
I don't know that I would use Project Sample Rate of 22500 (lower left). That will sound like muffled FM radio. Much better the Audacity default 44100 (Music CD) or 48000 that video uses.
If you change it higher, re-import your music fresh at the new rate.

Re: I need to split a MP3 file into tracks
Delete all the blank tracks.
Place a label at the beginning of each song or segment.
http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/label_tracks.html
File > Export Multiple.
Audacity will break up your presentation at the label points. Don't forget to place a label at the first song.

Re: Single OK but "RECORD" doesn't work
I'm new to audacity. Are you using Audacity 2.1.2? Click Audacity > About Audacity. Did you install Audacity? Audacity 2.1.2 comes with an installer panel and needs you to drag the Audacity icon to the Applications icon. Audacity downloads as a .DMG file and it is possible to run Audacity from that...

Re: Mute and unmute microphone while recording?
Try not to solve the wrong problem. The five seconds is already there. That's where you breathe and clear your throat. Our job is silence it in real time.

Re: Background noise while recording a song
Yup. My microphone is behind a grill just to the left of my left-hand shift key. Windows laptops are business machines and corporate communications and conferencing computers. They're not just plain laptops any more. If you like to record internet sound, you have to use different Windows settings to...

Re: Interface
While I think changing the colours around is a neat idea, assistance and efficient help can depend on keeping the basic colours right where they are. "View > [X] Show Clipping (select). Look for red slices in the timeline when the blue waves reach the range extremes (100%)." "Oh, they...

Re: Mute and unmute microphone while recording?
I'm just playing this in my head. You were using the five second interval for breathing. That's why you can't just hold your breath to create the blank spot. You have to put respiration somewhere. This is far harder than you would think. You can place a label with hot keys in real time and then use ...

Re: making audio more even compressing it as little as posib
What are the best compressor settings... So by now it should be obvious there is no one set of adjustments or one tool. Anything you do automatically with global compression settings will probably not sound very good somewhere in a long performance or across multiple performances. You are remixing ...

Re: New to making audio
There is the Audacity YouTube Curse you should be aware of. There is no stern teacher to rap someone's knuckles with a ruler if they create a YouTube video wrong, and nobody ever goes back to correct a YouTube video for the current version of Audacity. Those two items are the major reasons we don't ...
