Audacity doesn't apply filters, effects or enhancements during recording. You got whatever Windows is doing to it.

Re: Recording with speakers sounds a little weird
You do need to come up with a damage sample that's not almost 100% special effects production. I hear no difference between them. When you self-record like this, you are running the sound through all the playback filters, effects and enhancements and then the sound turns around and comes back throug...

Re: Bizarre volume level issue with USB headset
OK. Read that multiple times. You're sending the Chrome playback audio out to the headset and then turning it around and bringing it back in for recording. That means, similar to doing the same thing with your broken soundcard, the audio is subject to the recording and playback services of your soun...

Are you recording to an internal drive with enough room? External FireWire drive with enough room?

It's not clear at the top. When Audacity crashes, just it vanishes, or the Mac restarts?
When you intentionally restart the Mac, do you get the opening "chong?"

Re: Bizarre volume level issue with USB headset
That seems an awful lot of work to record a headset. Are you capturing gameplay?

Re: Suddenly Crackling Noises
The puddingy proof is make a recording with the cellphone on but sitting on the desk next to you. I can't tell you what the connection time is, but you should be able to tell that from the destroyed recording. If you can break a recording under controlled conditions, then you know what causes it. Si...

Is there a way to adjust the RMS level? http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=297423#p297423 Adjusting RMS or loudness is rough. If your basic, starting-out quality is a little off, you can chase your tail. Changing loudness is basically moving the volume control up and down. Of course, it'...

Actually, Audacity can do that, too.
Oop. Too late.
