You never got all the way to telling us what your sound device is.
This is one of my Behringer UCA-202s connecting my Windows machine to my Peavey analog sound mixer.

Re: playback to fast
That usually means the capture was happening too slow (I thought we had a write-up about this...). It's possible the notebook speed isn't up to recording live audio. Has it ever worked? Make sure the notebook isn't doing anything else. Stop all other activities, turn off the network or WiFi. Shut do...

Re: no line in on laptop
I'm surprised it's not also distorted. Those two tend to go together. There is no convenient software fix. I used a Behringer UCA-202 stereo adapter. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/peaveyUCA202Lenovo-650.jpg It's a good combination of high quality and low cost, and it's certified for overdub...

Re: "Not Responding" and very long delays.
It's nice you're running 64 bit, but Audacity (as far as I know) is 32-bit. So it seems to be a time-related failure. My only experience that maps to this problem is a memory checker. There is a program that loads into the machine in place of the regular OS (It used to be on a floppy) and once start...

Re: "Not Responding" and very long delays.
You're on Windows. What's your hard drive light doing during all this? Disco light show?
How big is your drive and how full is it? Spinning metal?

Re: "Not Responding" and very long delays.
I know the solution is staring me right in the face.......... I just created a mono pink noise Project 10 hours long. The _data folder is over 3GB. It opens from a fresh desktop (double click the AUP file) in about a second. I'm doing this on a clean Mac with solid state drive, so nothing takes me v...

Re: Recording music through DJ controller
Which DJ controller? While I dig..... Did you go through MIDI remapping setup mentioned in the Serato literature? Audacity doesn't support MIDI very well, so anything MIDI does is likely to be invisible to Audacity. There is another posting from someone having trouble recording a Serato Intro. http:...

Re: I have no sound on playback.
So you really want self-recording. Play something and Audacity records it.

Re: Cant record with win 8
Microsoft made self-recording harder and harder as the versions progressed. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tutorial_recording_computer_playback_on_windows.html And even if you do get it to work, you may still have sound quality problems. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/faq_recording_troublesh...
