Re: Making voices audible
Still true. We can't help a sound track where you can't understand speech right out of the gate. Plus, parts of the track have clipping distortion (crackles) if the noise and rumble wasn't bad enough. The only tool we have is Effect > Equalization > Select Curve: Telephone . Effect > Noise Removal d...

Re: learning audacity
That's not to say we don't have help. We do.

That and when you do get stuck, post back with details. Details are good. We look at your question to answer it and to consider whether a change to the tutorial is needed.

Re: learning audacity
That's not usually the step that flummoxes people. Usually, people have trouble with live recording. Or are you trying to "clean up" your live recording in Audacity because you recorded it wrong? Most of the forum elves are volunteering to do this part time, so this is already all of our d...

Re: multitrack overdubbing
Very early in the overdub setup there is a step where you make a good, straight, simple recording. As far as I can tell, you can't do that. If you try for a simple straight recording, headphone monitoring at the Tascam fails. So that's full stop. What I called "perfect overdubbing" (manufa...

Re: pause/stop/resume recording in Audacity
No. That's it. There is a pseudo crash-record you can do. Stop the recording. Click a place where you would want to "cover up" the old work. Press record and it will start recording from that point. However, it doesn't actually cover up old work. It just starts a new track at that exact lo...

Re: pause/stop/resume recording in Audacity
P will pause the recording. P to pick it up again.
Shift-R is Append Record. That will jam the new work on the end of the old work.
I think there's a third one now. Looking.

Re: multitrack overdubbing
Things are improving I think. In the sense of having conflicting conditions. At the Tascam, we have what I'm calling "restrained volume." You have a Shure SM57, a perfectly delightful microphone widely used for percussion and in a pinch, for everything else. It does not breathe fire. When...

Re: Timer recording in background
Not Audacity that I know of. Is there an APP for that? If somebody said I had to record odd hardware, I'd adapt the sound (headphone out??) to my little Olympus stand-alone sound recorder. I got the cheapest one that would record full "CD" sound quality. "I can't do that" is not ...

Re: Issues with the Noise Removal Feature
Noise Reduction can be a little magic. We changed the name from Noise Removal to Noise Reduction to reflect what it actually does. It's not intended to make noise vanish. So if that's your goal, this isn't going to work very well. The profile step can be confusing. It Is Required that you run Noise ...

What are you listening to?
This is a 39 second Left and Right sound test. My voice bounces back and forth and I announce where I am.

See if it plays OK with and without Audacity and remember where it fails.
