Re: Peaks limited between -0.5 and 0.5
OK. Audacity doesn't do anything to the signal before recording, so if that's what Windows got, that's what Audacity will get. What did you plug into the Scarlett? The more you describe what you're doing and the more detailed you get, the faster we can resolve this. We have to build your system in o...

Re: Installing Chris's Compressor...
Chris has one other wacky thing it does. It doesn't say "Chris" when you use it. Effect > (scroll way down) Compress dynamics. See Attached. I have only ever used it to process live voice radio shows. I either use it with the standard settings, or change the first setting "Compress ra...

Re: How can I set the bit rate to 192kbp that is required by
Did your recording sound quality come out OK? We have a custom ACX testing tool that does similar jobs to the Dreaded ACX First Level Testing Robot. It can save a lot of ping-ponging across the country trying to get the quality right. Your RMS volume is too low and the background noise level is too ...

I got it. Do you? You should be converting your master performance, uncompressed WAV files, not an existing MP3. MP3 files don't re-edit or convert well. That's why all your master sound work and archives should be in perfect quality WAV (Microsoft). You can convert WAV down to any other format inc...

Re: Cannot retrieve original audio file
This is what is supposed to happen (attached, scroll down). The AUP file has instructions (it's a text file) so Audacity knows how to create the show from the work inside the _DATA folder. The _DATA folder has all the AU files created during the recording. Not all the AU files are sound and they're ...

Re: Peaks limited between -0.5 and 0.5
I need to go back and look at your equipment, but that's a common symptom of someone connecting a powerful, loud signal (such as a headphone socket) to something which is expecting a light, delicate, tiny signal, such as a computer Mic-In. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/Line-Out_Mic-In.jpg T...

Re: please help check noisy audio lecture
Attached is the clip with Noise Reduction applied. I used the area between 7.8 and 8.7 seconds as Profile (Noise Reduction—First Pass). Then I applied the correction to the whole clip (Noise Reduction—Second Pass) with the settings 12, 6, 6. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/noise_reduction.html No...

Re: External microphone is not availible
Some devices that don't say "Microphone" in the title need special drivers or software to work. Cam Chat is a video communications device, not a microphone.

Re: External microphone is not availible
I'm lost. The Cam Chat is available, but you can't click on it?
Audacity may not see a connection if it's established after Audacity starts, you can just restart Audacity to make it appear. But it looks to me like it's there.

Re: Incomplete recovery of files after crash
I sense a note of hope in your voice when you say "File Recovery Tool." That's probably a bad idea. Did you also note Gale said "if you were using a spinning Hard Disk Drive that was almost empty"? Do you have an almost empty hard drive? That would make you one of the few people ...
