there's no easy-answer. What he said. This is how I did it. http://www.kozco.com/tech/MicTests/studioLayout.jpg You may need to zoom your browser to see the whole thing. That's a classic analog microphone, small but nice sound mixer plugged into a quiet computer for recording. What you don't see is...

Re: The absolute best way to record guitar...
We talked about this before. A Yeti Pro isn't a Yeti. It's a completely different microphone. They did it that way because of name recognition. $250 usd is not a casual purchase; it has performance tricks other than the published specifications. My joke is I'd probably like the Yeti Pro. This is my ...

Re: The absolute best way to record guitar...
my laptop's vacuum-style fan noise More serious than you think. Remember you can't get a USB microphone any further away from the computer than one USB cable. This is for a movie voice track I shot. http://www.kozco.com/pictures/boothFinished/laptop-mic.jpg Forget the padding and microphone for a s...
Re: RMS
Once you get it installed, it appears as Analyze > ACX Check. Attached: I analyzed a sound test I had on the machine. Turns out the peak and RMS are OK, but the background noise is too high—first three readings. So it fails ACX Check. Zero is the maximum volume you can have and the numbers get highe...
Re: RMS
If we assume they're using the same audiobook settings as ACX... http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=297423#p297423 Audacity has an add-on tool that can automatically display all three (and more) of the critical sound readings—including RMS. This can be insanely handy because it lets you m...

Re: Recording using Audacity
Thank you. It says you're recording your built-in microphone. See just to the right of the little microphone picture?
With everything connected, that little window should have a drop-down and list everything you have available for recording. Post that list.

Re: Removing echo and enhancing audio
Welcome to the paradox, ladies and gentlemen. Echo is the single voice from your mono microphone coming back from the walls and ceiling late. This is the effect that makes your clap come back to you after a short pause from the building across the street. This is the big auditorium sound. Stereo Eff...

Re: Removing echo and enhancing audio
If you start recording in mono, Trebor's echo trick will stop working. It works by comparing Left with Right assuming most of the differences might be echo. That's a good and bad thing. Normal directional microphones have a thing called Proximity Effect. you get bassier and more "American Annou...

Re: Adding background music to my VIDEO
FFmpeg add-on lets Audacity recognize the audio tracks from many different video formats. Scroll down. http://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/ But, as above, Audacity won't edit video, so you need a video editor to put your new show back. And do not use MP3. MP3 sound files can mess with timin...
