Re: Peaky notes, EQ and compressor limitations, uncontrollab
I think you're over-analyzing this. Volume spikes respond very well to either Effect > Compressor or Effect > Limiter. Either of those tools will reduce volume spikes with only very slight effect on the show. In most cases, you don't notice they're working. Ripping a show apart into frequency compon...

Re: Audacity shutting down if I try to use effects
My new Mac has an auto spell-check that I am still getting used to I can spell OK on my own and I've been known to turn that off. Some browsers have the option to indicate a spelling change without actually performing it. Finding the Audacity plug-ins folder is very difficult Desktop > Go (top bar)...

Re: Very loud buzzing/squeaking sound
I don't hear a loud buzzing, squeaking sound in your sample. I hear normal microphone rain-in-the-trees pink noise shshshshshsh and maybe a very, very tiny crickets at night sound that I might miss if I wasn't listening for it. Do you get the noise if you play the sample on a different computer or m...

Re: Nyquist Noise Gate Issue
Noise Gate is one of those effects that reads good on the tin, but may not be the angelic gift it seems. Even when it's working right, it can give an odd sound with pumping noises in the words. Depending on the noise, it can give you hissy snake voices or Peter Frampton talking motors or busses. Des...

Re: Audacity won't recognise mp3 files
I've tried re-installing audacity Did you try resetting Audacity? In the Windows installer, there's a place to check-mark that you want Audacity to kill off all your preferences and settings. If you don't do that, all your settings and preferences will stay around (handy for version updates) and th...

Re: Finding Data Files
The AUP file is a text file. It's semi-English XML programming language. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/aup1.jpg It's a list of instructions what Audacity should do with all that stuff in the _DATA folder. That's where the actual sound is, in snippets and fragments. I believe the AUP file is written...

What gets you past Human Quality Control is natural sounding reading. ACX Check just gets you past the robot at the front door.

Re: RMS 35, SOS!
Exactly correct. You're doing sort of a one-off, but people who plan on reading a lot quickly tire of rescuing each and every chapter. Much better a studio reading where you can adjust the volume and walk away....save me in the editing process.

Re: RMS 35, SOS!
That's thread wander. There are two different conversations going on. You get used to it.
My temperament is to grab what works with white knuckles and hold on. You can mess with variations if you want, but the goal is to get you published, not generate the most elegant process.

Re: Audacity 2.1.2 - Problem with Zoom conference recorder
I wonder what Zoom the hardware corporation thinks about that. Audacity is not good software to record conferencing services and programs. Not that it doesn't work at all, it's just not stable or reliable. If it works you win and if it doesn't, you lose, the recording is trash and we can't help you....
