Re: What should stereo recording look like

The UCA202 has built-in diagnostics. The headphones can be switched to the Stereo-Out service (for Overdubbing/Sound-On-Sound). Monitor ON.

is that Stereo? You should leave Audacity off for this test. If you have Windows or Audacity sound services set wrong, that can sound confusing.

Re: having trouble recording audio with headset mic

A number of sound systems or products act funny or not at all under Windows 10. It has to say explicitly in the documents that Windows 10 is supported. Does it? You can't extend support of win7 through Win8 as being OK further up. If it does say Win10, do you have the updated drivers and software? C...

Re: having trouble recording audio with headset mic

We try to keep conversations and discussions on one forum. Is it a laptop? How sure are you you're recording your microphone and not the laptop's built-in? You can do a scratch test. Start a test recording and scratch each microphone. Never blow into a microphone. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/clip...

Re: What should stereo recording look like

Probably not. I don't know of a UCA 202 that's ever failed. It's Left, correct? A system that tries to convert stereo to mono usually uses Left.

What does the Audacity microphone symbol say? It should say USB Audio CODEC.

Re: What should stereo recording look like

You're in Audacity 2.0.3 which had almost useless default sound meters. You can pull the sound meters much larger for diagnostics.

Re: Project can not be retrieved

Projects do not save UNDO. Once you save a project and exit, that's the end of the world.
back space key the waveform disappeared.
There is a destructive backspace key (upper right).

What was the goal for doing that?

Re: What should stereo recording look like

They're never identical. Even through simple manufacturer variations one of the two sound meters maybe slightly higher than the other. Vinyl noise is always in stereo. preamp to the USB input device You can break the connection there and touch first one connector (on the computer side) and then the ...

Re: Retrieve file after crash is silence

You can force a project into graphic flatline by damaging the lead au file. It's a graphic file. That may have changed. Doesn't affect the sound.
