Re: Need help with my sound in order to pass Audible ACX

Rescue time! Someone posted Nyquist code to get rid of that whine. I tried one and it was awful. Pretend I didn't find it. What's the code for that? I think I see spikes at 1 Khz and 2 KHz. I think Flynwill said those are the USB supervisory negotiation channels? I think no matter who listens to tha...

Re: Shock mount for use in a restaurant

Exactly correct. Once you know what the noise is thinking about, you can take steps. Most vibration suppression works like this. This is an AKG system. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/AKGShockMount-500T.jpg The circular thing is a bunch of rubber bands. That's the soft and gushy part. The microph...

Re: Shock mount for use in a restaurant

I got better results using the cardboard box. You need two "things." Soft/fluffy followed by hard/unyielding . Set up the book and towel and use that as the goal. You could be a long time flipping between trashy solutions trying to find the magic one, particularly if you're trying to do i...

Re: Need help with my sound in order to pass Audible ACX

not sure why you you keep referencing the Blue Yeti USB mic, as that is definitely not what I have Because that particular noise is so common, it has its own name. It's not "hum." As you're finding, you can pass ACX Check and still have that whine sound back there. I applied a custom filt...

Re: Need help with my sound in order to pass Audible ACX

ACX-Check tool Apparently, nobody wrote the user guide. After you install the tool software. ACX Check shows up under Analyze. Screen Shot 2016-06-03 at 3.16.55.png Note you also have to pass Human Quality Control . This is where your overly noise-reduced, honky voice is going to die, and Yeti Curs...

Re: Need help with my sound in order to pass Audible ACX

Are you using our ACX-Check tool? This has come up enough times that FlynWill developed a tool to make all the cardinal ACX measurements in one swoop. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Nyquist_Analyze_Plug-ins#ACX_Check And I wrote the short page on what those numbers mean. http://forum.audacityteam...

Re: Shock mount for use in a restaurant

Sorry. That's 1/2" plywood (12.5 mm). I went out and measured it. That looks far cooler than the novel and towel, it doesn't work quite as well. If you have woodworking tools, you can go nuts. Round the corners or bevel the edges for a nice Queen-Ann look. I use furniture-grade plywood so I don...

Re: Shock mount for use in a restaurant

You can transfer vibrations up the cable, too. So no tight-stiff pathways to the laptop. This is where USB microphones can be a problem.

Re: Shock mount for use in a restaurant

Or a little something from Houghton-Mifflin and Wamsutta. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MicBookTowel-500t.jpg It's soft and gooshy on the bottom and stiff/hard/heavy on top. Here's a more customized version. That's 3/8" plywood on the top, high-heat black spray paint and Duveytine (theatri...

Re: screen goes dark and computer unresponsive

This is the first time this has happened in 7 years of using Audacity And the first time you tried using El Capitan. What did you upgrade from? Has this been a continuously updated machine, or did you burn it off, hose it down and start over? If you used to be in Mavericks (10.9), what's the possib...
