Re: Error Importing .aup File
Audacity knows perfectly well what an AUP file is and how to use it, it just couldn't figure out how to use yours. Either copy it as an attachment to the forum (scroll down > Upload attachment > Browse) Or open your AUP in a text editor (Notepad??) I expect it to have semi-English text instructions ...

Re: Avoid hearing previous tracks on new track while recordi
There have been posts where we just couldn't figure out where the bad sound pathway was coming from. But yes. You have the idea. Close all the known sound pathways and keep trying. Now I open a new track "Track 2", where I record the guitar. I'm running that through my mind. That's not how...

Re: Mysterious Crackly Popping Noise Occurs Like 1 in 25 tak
I don't know we have any firm idea what causes that, but it seems to respond to different settings in: Audacity > Preferences > Recording > Audio to Buffer. My personal recommendation is to change that setting to try to make the problem worse. Once you have a handle on what it's doing, you have a go...

Re: Shock mount for use in a restaurant
There was a recent posting from someone who wanted to do what you're doing, but in a cafe in France. I told them there's nothing wrong with background sounds in a cafe intrview, but some cafes are designed so you have to lean into your friend just to hear what they're saying. Those are not good cand...

Re: Shock mount for use in a restaurant
This is where thinking like the microphone is handy. Cardioid (kidney) pattern means there's one magic place behind the microphone where it doesn't listen to anything. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/CardioidPattern.png The other areas are a little broad and sloppy (that's looking down from o...

Re: I suspect a wrong recording
You are probably just recording the machine's built-in microphone. It works, but that does record street traffic and dogs.

Re: Avoid hearing previous tracks on new track while recordi
I would have thought we'd had a pre-baked answer to this already. You're on headphones, check. Do you like recording on-line content like YouTube sound? The settings to do that, can do this. Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Recording: [X] Overdub. That should be the only thing selected. Audacity Devi...

Re: overdub recording
What's the numbered version of Audacity? Do you like recording on-line content like YouTube sound? Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Recording: [X] Overdub. That should be the only thing selected. Audacity Device Toolbar > Microphone Symbol (recording). That should be your single recording device such...

Re: Shock mount for use in a restaurant
Found it. This technique uses an odd microphone trick "fake pressure zone." The microphone is actually sitting in a little hole in the plywood, so it doesn't roll around. It is an actual SM58 rock band microphone because in this case, the panel is bumped up against a wall and had to carry ...

Re: Shock mount for use in a restaurant
of course you can dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough. black high temperature paint on the wood. That's correct. That helps a little with visual presentation and microphone fright. Turns out Engine Block or Cooking Grill black paint is far more robust than generic "fl...
