Re: Skype Recording missing caller
How did you set up the mixer? Did you set it up or get somebody else to do it? I've done reliable Skype recordings with a mixer, but I did it with two different computers. As a rule, Skype takes up two sound channels (transmit and receive) and the recording takes up one either stereo or mono dependi...

Re: Audacity makes sound disappear
Which numbered Audacity is it? Did you get it from here? http://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/ You know Audacity is doing this because.....? What do you use Audacity for? If you like to self-record, that is record YouTube videos or something like that, you can get scrambled playback devices ...

Re: Noise Floor
Two thoughts. I can do this for weeks, but maybe you should stop obsessing and actually read something. You are not a beginner and already have a good self-concept of your talents. You are so not a newbie. Whatever you do, export the RAW work as WAV (Microsoft) and save it as Archive. There is no &q...

Re: Noise Floor
If you don't have enough pain in your life, I did write a thing about how to do ACX testing manually. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/ACXTesting/ACXTesting.html This is what one-pass ACX-Test replaces. There's actually a mistake in there I never bothered to fix. The peak specification is actually...

Re: Noise Floor
I don't know we ever found your exact microphone model. My favorite microphone for this type of work is the Samson G-Track. Among it's significant attributes is echo-free monitoring from a connection in the base.

Re: Noise Floor
I do note that all your posted work so far has been commercial and "presenter" work rather than theatrical readings. That's my joke of listening to someone telling you a story over cups of hot tea in a comfortable kitchen as opposed to someone trying to sell you "New Scruffy Trash-Can...

Re: Noise Floor
ACX doesn't like those tools because most people overuse them. It's not unusual for someone to submit a clip that's been processed to death because they started with a very noisy original recording and then tried to "rescue" it with processing. We regularly get posters who proudly point to...

Re: Noise Floor
Yup. 1/2 second. There is no half-second silent stretch in the clip, so the tool went nuts.

Re: Noise Floor
How to measure noise the old fashioned way. Drag-select the silent portion. I used the portion at the beginning .05 to .25. Analyze > Contrast > Measure selection (top one) > Read the value > Close. For this one clip for that one value, you have to do it the old way. I think ACX-Check needs a half-s...

Re: Noise Floor
The clip passes very nicely. Yes, it's been through some compression processing so the RMS (loudness) is actually higher than ACX would like it. All I did was reduce the overall volume (Effect > Amplify: -2 > OK.) and both Peak and RMS fell straight into compliance. What about noise? The noise measu...
