Re: editing
Post production editing is a better deal than you think because getting the rhythm and timing of live speech to match is not easy. If you miss it either way the speech sounds awkward and if you miss it the wrong way you're stuck with cutting and pasting room tone or worse, making new room tone so th...

If you Stop and Record again, Audacity will open a whole new timeline underneath the one you were on before. If you Pause with the P key, Audacity will stop recording and then pick up again when you P the second time. You can Stop and then pick up at the end of the original track with Append Record ...

Re: Audacity shutting down if I try to use effects
The recovery always worked perfectly with my PC. You got into very bad habits with your PC. It's not normal to walk away from an open project for days and it's not normal to rely on Emergency Recovery for day to day use. You are expected to manually save your work regularly and make protection copi...

Re: Strange file format?
Did you try right-click or control-click > Get Info? That might go a very long way to finding out what you really have. It might simply be a video file that Bose doesn't understand. That's not a wacky idea. You can create a Data CD and an Audio CD with the same music on it and they will both play fa...

Re: Import/export settings for bird sound recording
There's nothing wrong with 48000 sampling. That's what video uses. As far as bit depth, Audacity does everything internally at 32-floating to make effects and filters easier (or even possible), If all you're doing is trimming the two ends and out the door and you start with 16-bit (highly likely), y...

I'm surprised they don't get the microphone type and model down a lot better. Dynamic microphones such as the SM-58 rock band microphone work by throwing magnetic fields back and forth. Electret microphones like the Blue Yeti work with electro-static fields. Ribbon microphones work by tiny velocity ...

Re: Newest Audacity and Win7 dont work together
Recording music playing on the computer isn't particularly easy because you have to trick the computer into run Play and Record at the same time and they don't always want to do that.

Re: Crackling and Speed Distortion When Recording
I think this is where I gracefully bow out. I'm not a Windows elf. I have no idea what could cause an otherwise well-behaved Windows machine to suddenly produced a destroyed recording. I do know there's no shortage of jokes about Windows 10 and the Microsoft upgrade has cause no end of problems. Win...

Re: Microphone boost on windows
both got 2 wires into the mic itself, etc. You shouldn't go very far thinking that. Computer microphones have two interleaved connection systems...because it was cheap and inexpensive to do it that way. Taking the obvious one first, the voice signal comes down from the microphone on one of those th...

Re: Audacity doesn't recognise my Keyboard?
Audacity Projects look like this. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MyMusicAUP-MyMusic_DATA.jpg The AUP file has the text programming to tell Audacity what to do with all that stuff inside the _DATA folder. The two need to have the same name as each other and when they were created and they need to...
