Re: Need help in muting one midi instrument

I would like to mute or lower the string section and only those instruments so that I can play that part myself. That's the exact place you would use a MIDI editor/manager/sequencer. After you get the song just the way you like it, then you can get Audacity to play it as a backing track for overdub...

Re: I am New to Home Recording. Please Be Gentle :)

Sounds like I also need music notation software for writing my own notes and playing them back.....Probably need a good MIDI editor for this... Correct. MIDI is machine control. It's not sound. MIDI is a song in the same sense that printed music is a song. Also, in that same sense, you can't start ...

Re: Timed recording?

Is there a way to set a recording time at 1 minute, enough to start recording and run to the vocal mic? Ask that again and use different words. Timer record will start any time in the future, go for as long as you want and stop any time. It will record whatever device you have set. I see you can al...

Re: Saved different tracks as separate projects but need to combine as one project for podcast

I have never lost a paid gig.
That's not to say I haven't screwed things up. Just not for hire. I have a recording that captured twice, at the same time, a fraction of a second apart, and it drifted. I have zero idea how that happened and it only happened once.

Re: Fixing an ACX Issue

That's -65dB after mastering , right? You may find that the mastering tools can help your noise way more than you think. Many home microphones naturally produce a low-pitched rumble sound that can mess up noise readings. Low Rolloff sucks that rumble right out of your performance. It's one of the re...

Re: Fixing an ACX Issue

are they not the same thing? "Room Tone" is the noise the room is making if you're not making any sound. That's the traffic outside, refrigerator, etc. All the stuff before the microphone. This stuff can be a little magic. I have a bass cabinet that doesn't go off when I turn it off and i...

Re: Possible to convert an 8 channel music file to stereo?

From the top of the message thread:
I want to convert them into stereo. Is there a way to do this in Audacity?
Based on your starting point and what you know about the production, no.

Re: Possible to convert an 8 channel music file to stereo?

two consecutive mono tracks into a stereo L/R pair. That will give you four stereo tracks. Without knowing what the original 8 tracks were, you could get a stereo show with dialog on the left and bass notes on the right. You have to know something about the original show. Google/Research the origin...
