I'm just playing this back in my head. I think they're back ordered for months. Never mind.......

Re: Is a phantom power adapter enough?
I've been happy with a Behringer UM2 preamp. It seems to work well, supplies 48v phantom power, has headphone monitoring and is certified for overdubbing. And it's mono, so you don't have to manage two tracks.

Re: Language Lab Audacity?
I can think of one way to simulate that. Open the sentence in Audacity and play it. Stop. Press Record and record your response. Stop. This gives you the two tracks one above the other and you can play either one - or both at once with the Solo and Mute buttons to the left. Then you can record a new...

Re: Recording Serato Intro with Audacity
Most Windows machines don't convert to anything else. I use a Behringer UCA202 for stereo connections. It's good quality, inexpensive, bi-directional, and certified for overdubbing.
Hard to beat.
I have two.

Another way to do it is pick up the MacBook while it's running, turn it around and listen to the back of the screen down close to the hinge. That's where Macs do most of their air exchange.
Is it an older 13" MacBook and not Pro?

Re: Making the Voice Sound Better - are there macros?
Dutch, right? We had two Netherlanders in the shop and they had similar pronunciation swing when they talked. In my opinion you're far ahead in reading for enjoyment if you have a slight swing, pitch or regional twist to your words than if you read flat with a broadcast or presenter technique. My fa...

Re: no audio in
Are we talking the SoundBlaster soundcard inside your computer? Audacity has nothing to do with it until Windows figures out what it's doing. Set up the sound in Windows and then launch Audacity and pick the device in the device toolbar. I'm not a Windows elf, so you're on your own there. http://man...

Re: Making the Voice Sound Better - are there macros?
Here's a clip where the first five seconds is the old clip and everything else is correction. I mixed your work down to mono (one blue wave). Voice work is usually in mono. Stereo (two blue waves) just wastes storage space. Convert what you have with the drop-down menu on the left of the track > Spl...

Re: Making the Voice Sound Better - are there macros?
That's more better. Attached sound clip and AudioBook test. See sentence 2/3 of the way down. Screen Shot 2016-07-06 at 11.34.28.png That was not easy. That took multiple passes of noise reduction and I had to take out a house wall power hum tone that your microphone has. Then I had to suppress micr...
