Re: Audio levels when recording

You just have to start tinkering with Audio and you appreciate how much hard work goes into good sound. I am so going to have to lie down for a minute. You are miles ahead of all the posters who appear here wanting us to make them "sound more professional." There's two leaps right away. Y...

Re: Connecting Citronic AC-1USB interface to record

What does the Mac think? Apple (upper left) > System Preferences > Sound > Input. Select the usb connection and see if the blue ball sound meter jumps. If not, then the sound is not getting between the mixer and the AC-1. I use the Tape-Out on my mixer. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/peaveyT...

Re: Audio levels when recording

What's the goal? Read audiobooks and be internationally famous? Podcast? Computer noise can be a serious problem. ACX AudioBook has some serious restrictions for background noise, and it's checked by a robot, so you may not even get past the bouncer with the bulging muscles. We have some tools and p...

Re: Ongoing issue with audio tracks while editing, see pic

The damage moves around. It jumps to a different location in the same track. That's a quote from the posting. I'd feel a lot better if the poster said the words "I restarted my machine from power off." This could be symptoms of a profoundly unstable machine. It's not likely to fix itself o...

Re: Ripping my hair out in frustration

And remote monitor is one of the solutions mentioned in the ACX documentation. Once you get your basic announcing settled, it's just a matter of getting a little louder or softer to maintain overall presentation volume. It's a memory or presentation hint. It's not unusual over the course of several ...

Re: Audio levels when recording

Found it. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=308510#p308510 This is part of an on-going conversation, so it goes on before and after this post. No, this is not unusual. The thing about parking a microphone on your desk and reading audiobooks straight-off is something of a fairy tale. Koz

Re: Audio levels when recording

First things first. The C1 is a directional, side-fire microphone. You should be speaking into the little red light (which should be on), not the back and not the end. The C1 is not a fire-breather; it's not particularly loud. So I'm not surprised you need to present a little aggressively. It's the ...

Re: Making the Voice Sound Better - are there macros?

I think my favorite woman's voice is Molly Wood from the Marketplace radio show/podcast. That's the joke that I could listen to her read the phonebook. I have one radio show I need to capture. She hosted Marketplace and I want to get a test clip. My AudioBook reader is Sarah Vowell. This is a clip f...

Re: Making the Voice Sound Better - are there macros?

Could you try to improve this new recording? Not by much. Audio Compressor -- Select the whole clip or show by clicking just above MUTE. -- Effect > Normalize: [X]Remove DC, [X]Normalize to -3.2 > OK -- Effect > Compressor: Thresh -20, Floor -40, Ratio 2:1, Attack 0.2, Release 1.0, > OK -- Effect >...
