I think that's still being too fancy. I left the top track intact. After I figured out simple deletions wasn't going to do it by way of a quick survey, I just left the track as it was. I know of no way to fix that. Overload/clipping (top and bottom missing from the blue waves) is one of the permanent deadly mistakes.

You may get a little relief with Effect > Low Pass Filter: 1000Hz, 36dB.

You can drag-select the work and press the wavy line in a vice tool. I think that has the effect of doing what you did with fewer edits.
