Re: Overloading Input Meters
Anybody else notice the posted track seems to be mono? Almost perfectly matching sound meters and identical blue waves? I would intentionally throw off the stereo balance on the mixer and see if the Mac follows you. There has to be a Pan pot somewhere. Better than even chance the Mac won't. I bet yo...

Re: How to remove loud sounds? Envelop? Anything else?
That blue thing is a furniture moving blanket. That's not a bad idea, either. That will get rid of dropping loose change on the table noises and will make the voices clearer. That last one is a little magic. The blanket keeps vocal table reflections out of the microphone. This was a broadcast sound ...

Re: How to remove loud sounds? Envelop? Anything else?
That would be Effect > Limiter. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/limiter.html The effect gets more vicious as you work down the option list. By the time you hit Hard Clip, the tool is brutally whacking off the tops of the blue waves. You can get rid of table conduction noise with the Wamsutta/Doub...

Re: what is the best way to remove frequencies that you dont
Effect > Equalization. Grab the blue/green line with your mouse and push down the frequencies you want to suppress. You can increase the detail in the tool by just pulling the window wider. Leave the filter Length in the middle of its range unless you need much more detailed control of pitch. http:/...

Re: Will the quality be the same
Since MP4 is a compressed format, you're stuck with additional sound damage. One pass through compression damage is pretty simple, but the real magic is in multi-pass. BluRay already has compressed sound, so if you really offended the sound gods, converting that to MP4 may double the damage. Sound C...

Re: Push to Talk option
switch in broadcast situations. Also known as Broadcast Studios. It doesn't work so well in Outside Broadcast or other non-studio applications where it starts to sound funny because it kills the performer and the environment. In Outside Broadcast shows, it makes the engineer crazy because it sounds...

Re: Push to Talk option
http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Nyquist_Effect_Plug-ins#Noise_Gate I'm betting that's not going to be the gift from the angels you think. Noise Gate frequently sounds like somebody going in with a dull knife and hacking up your show. Even if you do get it adjusted so it sounds natural, that will w...

Re: Removing low vocals question from a new member
Missed a step. There's no good way to get from a mixed performance back into the individual voices, instruments or sounds. So no, we can't split one voice off and delete it. You would think since one voice is lower volume than the other, there should be some tool. There is. It's called a noise gate,...

Re: Removing low vocals question from a new member
You could have hardware problems. Is this the same machine you use to record YouTube or other on-line sound tracks? Those settings will profoundly affect the sound quality. You are experiencing both ends of product development. You are using Skype for this job precisely because you know Skype is goi...

Re: Removing low vocals question from a new member
Doing a split recording like that is a good idea. I shot a branch of a broadcast show like that once. Once you get past the individual studio problems, you should be good to go. Chances are good, however, if you have sound problems, it's because Skype wants it that way. Skype can be vicious about it...
