Re: Recording noise getting worse... not better
My favorite is an On Stage Stands 9701B. That's what's holding up the left-hand microphone in this picture. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/JMASoundShoot-650.jpg The more common one is the lighter duty 7701B. Your mileage may vary. Consult your local listings. You can get a clothespin clip fo...

Re: Best size for recording room? And what acoustic foam to
I like my Begringer UM2 MicPre. These are the recommendations from ACX. ACX Equipment List Rode NT1a microphone, MBox Mini-2 (no longer available), Fast Track Solo, and Fast Track Duo. Microphone stand with boom, microphone shock mount and pop and blast filter. Quiet computer. I believe that's what ...

Re: Best size for recording room? And what acoustic foam to
We have to stick to generalities all the way down to hardware recommendations. At that exact instant we need to find someone that owns or has used the hardware and it's much more difficult. It makes me nervous when I see listings like "Interface by Behringer." Who made the rest of it? Desi...

Audacity has been known to Export work to some messy places by accident. I Export to my desktop, do file management and clean up from there. No magic folders or hidden locations (unless I want there to be).

Re: Record directly into Audacity from external audio record
That would be using the UCA-202 and not the analog connection, yes.

Re: Noise Floor
the camera connection kit allows any USB mic to work with an iPad / iPhone While that's a terrific idea, any adapter like that has to look exactly like a USB connection to keep the microphone happy. Remember The Yeti Curse? Odd whistles and whines in the sound from bad or soft USB connections? You ...

Re: USB pre-amp with direct monitor for electret microphone
OK. Here's the adapter. I'm using 4 AA cells for 6 volts instead of the 5 volts that normally comes from the computer. You do have to select the parts so the microphone contacts end up on the right rings for the connector on the left. Or you can customize the connector as you make the box. That's th...

Re: USB pre-amp with direct monitor for electret microphone
You picked the two system most unlikely to work together. Any time you plug a microphone into a computer, the monitoring for that microphone is likely to come back out to headphones late because of digital processing. Built-in echo. You need a computer to run the microphone because the battery volta...

Re: Integrated sound card in XPS8900 - yes or no?
I believe you. I'm not a Windows elf. Once you get into Windows sound routing you're right out of my world. It's good to know to split the system in half. It's possible to make a perfectly delightful recording and not be able to hear it during the performance. Record and Monitor are two separate job...
