Re: Low level hum in background of recordings
It's intermittent. Isn't that just the very best? Nobody wrote you can't have two or more problems, either. The first ACX Mastering tool, Filter Curve, is a rumble filter. It's job is to get rid of everything lower pitch than about 100Hz. Many home microphones produce rumble, thunder, and low pitch...

Re: Low level hum in background of recordings
I'm using the ACX Audiobook testing and mastering because, in general, if you can pass that, you can submit anywhere else. Their standards pass broadcast proof of performance. You are warned to use all three Audiobook Mastering tools. Don't add any and don't leave any out. They clean up after each o...

Re: Low level hum in background of recordings
You got it! There is no 90Hz hum in that sound file. I applied Audiobook Mastering and the file passes ACX Audiobook testing (but not by much). Screen Shot 2021-01-05 at 09.11.48.png You still need to find that noise. There's nothing more crazy-making than sound damage that comes and goes. I drag-se...

Re: Low level hum in background of recordings
my money is on Intermodulation between 60Hz mains and 30Hz subharmonic In which case the metal-detector, sweeping the microphone across the room won't do anything. Tests with negative results still tell you stuff. It could be lights, too. Nobody actually dims LED lights. They finagle time-sharing a...

Re: Low level hum in background of recordings
That's not wall power hum. That's 90Hz. I would have called computer fan. You know those pictures you see of people swinging metal detectors back and forth at the beach? Screen Shot 2021-01-05 at 07.37.42.png You can do that with your microphone. Aim it back and forth over your studio. You can set A...

Re: lost aup files
Which Audacity? Help > about. Did you close Audacity after the last job and before you tried to open up a job? Open Audacity. Generate > Noise, and then Save a Project. Does that work? Do you get both parts of a Project? https://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MyMusicAUP-MyMusic_DATA.jpg lost all of...

Re: Sound but no waves showing on horizontal line
ATR 2100-USB? Are you using it XLR/analog or through the USB connection? Are you actually recording your ATR 2100? Do a scratch test. Scratch the ATR 2100 and then scratch your laptop microphone and then anything else you have connected with a microphone such as a web cam. https://www.kozco.com/tech...

Re: Using audio interface, can't record while playing MP3
We should also remember that whatever you choose, Windows has to support it. Audacity gets its sound from Windows, not the device, and Windows will not support silly or oddball sampling rates. If you find yourself choosing high sampling rates for extra good quality, see if 44100 works first, then go...

Re: Using audio interface, can't record while playing MP3
Usually these are set at 44.1kHz or 48kHz. 44.1KHz is the audio CD sampling rate and is generally considered the default for home audio production. 48KHz is the video sound sampling rate. You might run into that if you're using a preamplifier or interface normally associated with video. I do voice ...
