Re: Audacity won't play audio
Just a point of order, if the Audacity sound meter is jumping, then the song is playing, it just isn't making it all the way out to you. That's one of the diagnostics we use to figure out where it's dying. I thought Audacity didn't recognize the sound file when I first read the title. Koz

Re: Can someone recommend a PC interface?
I can give you an idea of the problem. My voice is penetrating enough to go through soundproof walls and is recognized as a non-lethal weapon by the State of California, and yet, given a relatively standard setup and conventional dynamic microphone, does not overload my UM2. Flash forward, you may b...

Re: Have to press 'space' 3 times for playback
How long is the show? We have been burned by assuming the poster has a three minute song and it turns out they have a 15 hour surveillance recording. Also, Audacity is a 32-bit application running (I'm assuming) on a 64-bit machine. So it's never going to be a fire-breather. Are you running other au...

Re: Need advice fixing audio problem
Do you have Windows set to show you filename extensions? That's important because MP3 is not a video format. Its full name is MPEG 1, Layer 3, a sound format for MPEG 1 videos. Windows is famous for hiding the "real" filename, so it's possible you got MyShow.mp3.mp4 or some other variation...

Typing a browser post doesn't count. AutoCorrect will roll right over missing spaces.

Re: Can someone recommend a PC interface?
These little units are the perfect storm of convenience, small size, ease of use and low cost. But. Because they are being used by inexperienced performers, they usually feature low volume. Low volume is "safe." People recording low volume usually assume they're doing something wrong or ar...

Re: Can someone recommend a PC interface?
You would think we would be able to whip out a model or part number, but you hit the magic device nobody makes. Lots of people make small USB computer interfaces with microphone amplifier and Phantom Power, but nobody makes one with generous volume. "How do I make my microphone louder" is ...
