Re: "faulty sequence tags" and shifted stereo channels
Project work is saved as a cloud of tiny .au files, and they alternate left-right. So I'm not shocked that an unstable system could reverse left and right by accident. But it seems your system is just garden-hosing files around at random. The "safer" thing is just Audacity making personal,...

Re: Microphone changed on my audacity
A bad or worn USB connection can cause the microphone to magically come and go.

Re: Problems exporting sections of a long .mp3
Another note. Audacity internally works uncompressed at super high quality. So even though you supplied a nice but hefty m4a file, inside Audacity that's going to balloon to many multiple GB. MP3Split doesn't do that. It only works on the signals that are there. The shortcoming of that is an inabili...

Re: Problems exporting sections of a long .mp3
It's not a surveillance recorder, no. Audacity a couple of versions ago would not go over 13 hours.I suppose very long/big audio files aren't audacity's strong point?

Re: extract second layer
Generally, stereo has two blue waves, one intended for your left ear and one for your right. As should be obvious by now, you are after "isolate." That tool works by detecting if one voice is slightly more left or right than the other. It's an arithmetic trick. It's not going to give you a...

Re: Technical Term For This Kind of "Echo"?
That's just broken. I had Audacity do that to me once about a year ago. It actually recorded my voice perfectly but twice in the track and the two copies drifted in and out of sync. Hasn't happened since. I don't know of any way to fix that in post production. "Normal" echoes such as your ...

Where did you get the .m4a from?

Re: Microphone changed on my audacity
If something caused the USB device to fail however briefly, or you unplugged it, Audacity will not see it when it comes back. Audacity checks for new devices and connections when it starts.
Either restart Audacity with the USB device plugged in, or Transport > Rescan.

Re: Can't Record a Tubular Bell Sound
I never expect anything to work in Windows Actually, the same reason it won't do music is the reason it works reasonably well for voice. It senses tones that don't change over time. It analyzes them and quick as a bunny generates a filter to cancel them out. This lets you talk to people in heavy tr...
