Auto Duck is a part of the Effect set in Audacity 2.1.2. Split into two monos. Use it twice. Once right-side up to suppress track 1 and again upside-down to suppress track 2.

Re: How to swap *only selected* audio parts between two chan
Can we assume the "bad" sound is always lower volume than the prime voice? You may be a candidate for Noise Gate. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Nyquist_Effect_Plug-ins#Noise_Gate Split the stereo show to two mono tracks with the drop-down on the left. Select one of the two tracks and a...

Re: Audio skips during recording
http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/faq_recording_troubleshooting.html#skips See if you find anything in there. The Mac can't tell the number if analog microphones plugged in, so that one is a false clue. Do you have a Solid State Drive or spinning metal? Batteries or wall power? Close the network co...

Re: Shock mount for use in a restaurant

One of the grown-ups I know does it this way. He did a sound shoot on a speeding boat once.

Fair warning, if you get it to work, you'll be the expert...

Re: Selecting an audio voice; reduce background noise
If you can't understand the speaker, the best we can do is the telephone filter under Effect > Equalization. The other tools such as Noise Reduction need you to know exactly where the words are.

Audacity will extract and open the sound portion of a video, but you'll need a real video editor to recombine a patched sound track with the video no matter how you do it.

Re: Quickest way to download a 1 GB file from Net ?
An hour mono lecture should come in at about 58MB, not 1GB. So if I had to guess at it, I'd say you'd be getting a lot more than an interesting lecture. But yes, overnight or make good friends with someone with a higher speed connection. Whoever does it, make sure they have good backups and excellen...
