Just to cover it:
The machine did not go to Sleep or Suspend, right?
Are you connected to wall power or batteries?
How did you transfer your cassette? In detail. Part numbers.
What's the goal? "I want to burn an Audio CD."

Re: Keep recording on one channel after stop
I am recording audio on a single mono channel. From where? As a general rule, the Audacity setup adjustments have to match what you have plugged in. I have a mono (single channel) USB microphone and it will record a single blue wave in Audacity. Set mono in the Device Toolbar. http://manual.audacit...

Re: Music feedback when recording vocals
So you're re-recording the backing track sound along with your voice. This problem is super common among people who like to record YouTube sound or other internet content. Those foldback settings run Record and Playback at the same time and link them. Those are exactly the wrong settings for overdub...

Re: Lost playback sound
Did you get a new USB microphone? Sometimes Windows will distort sound pathways, including playback when you plug in a USB microphone or other sound device. Did you just start using Skype? Skype has been known to adjust sound pathways to what it wants and it doesn't matter what you or other software...

Re: Chris Capel's Dynamic Compressor
Chis famously doesn't like working with a sound track that starts with dead zero, flat line. When I'm cutting a show, I'll leave a little sound trash on the beginning to give Chris something to 'chew on'. After Chris finishes, I'll magnify my way in to the trash segment and cut it off or silence it....
