Re: How do I keep the original bitrate of a file?
When you exported your MP3 file, it should have offered you options to change the bitrate. Take them up on that. You may want to export the edited work as 96, but the quality isn't going to be 96. The quality may be as much as half that. Editing MP3 in Audacity isn't "free." Audacity recom...

Re: Very Annoying Error
That could explain some of the confusion. Your system, given a Windows laptop, has three microphones to choose from. Laptop built-in, the one in your Turtle Beach headset (and yes, it is a headset) and the C01 microphone, although we still don't know how you're getting the C01 into the computer. The...

Re: Very Annoying Error
We're going to need more information since much of what you said isn't required to record audiobook sound. Do you really have a headset, or just good headphones? What's the part numbers and maker? Same with the microphone. Who made it and which one? Some headsets—combinations of microphone and earpi...

Re: LF Rolloff for speech
It is audible on some voices, so if you start a project with it, you should finish with it.

Re: LF Rolloff for speech
It's a rumble filter. Thunder, etc. Steve designed it as a mirror to the movie industry's live recording filter. It doesn't affect woman's voices at all, but it can "tighten up" men's voices a little. If you have a double-balls broadcasting voice, it's not recommended at all, so it's not u...

Re: Powered speaker
It sounds like the machine is losing contact with the speakers. The Mac will revert to something "safe" such as the built-ins.
Do you have a really long USB cable? USB isn't much good beyond 4 to 6 feet. If you have cheap cables, not even that.

Re: Making music
What would you call the final show?
Are you trying to create a dance mix with other people's songs? Like the end of each song is faded into the beginning of the next one while hopefully matching beat and rhythm patterns so nobody ever has to stop dancing?
Did I hit it?

Re: How to split a recorded voice into two separate channels
Missed one. When you get to your final edit, Export a WAV (Microsoft) 16-bit as an Edit Master. Only then think about creating an MP3 or other compressed sound file for posting or other use. MP3 is an end-product. Once you make one, you can't edit or change it without causing progressively worse and...

Re: How to split a recorded voice into two separate channels
Assuming you have one "stereo" show (two blue waves with one panel on the left) then this is the optimal, perfect method to record your show. Screen Shot 2017-01-05 at 7.41.58 PM.png Before you do anything else, File > Export: WAV (Microsoft), 16-bit and move that file to a safe place on a...

Re: background noise
Can I remove the background noise? Let's start with no. Assuming an AM station, the interference is generally moving and constantly changing with the broadcast show. That immediately takes you straight out of most Audacity tools and filters which depend on one, single, constant noise to work. Congr...
