Re: Audacity 2.1.0 on Windows 7 Best way to lower file size?
44100 is the sample rate of a Music CD. You can reduce that, but then your show will start sounding like a business voicemail system. " If you know your party's extension.... " If you go down far enough, you get AM Radio. Audacity always runs internally at 32-bit to make the effects and fi...

It is highly recommended to Export your podcast Edit Master as WAV (Microsoft), 16-bit. From that edit master you can make the MP3 compressed versions of the show. Never open an MP3 for editing. Always go back to the WAV Edit Master. Multiple MP3 passes degenerate the sound quality and it can go qui...

Re: Very Annoying Error
I could use them fine on everything else. Any other recorders? As a fuzzy rule, recorders or content producers are very particular about tiny errors. Nobody cares if your wireless headphones skip a beat or produce very tiny holes in the music as you're jogging on the beach. But tiny holes in an imp...

Re: Is A Computer Inaccurate for Music Editing?
I noticed to get my sound right I'm recording with a stand-alone portable recorder What are you recording? We never established what the show was. The DR5 (they insist it's a DR-05) is a perfectly good live recorder and has provision to plug in modest computer microphones and the instructions claim...

Do you have recovery a lot?I've never had it where the recovery has brought back blank files.

Re: Isolating specific phonemes
What's the actual job? Sometimes we can think of solutions by changing the job a little.
You probably didn't get up this morning and say: "I think I'll go isolate some phonemes."

Re: Very Annoying Error
We have to build your system in our imagination to try and divine what's wrong and in the absence of good, clean data, we have to fall back on the system that Most People Have, and Most People have a Windows laptop. switch from my headset to speakers then back That would be rational if the machine w...

Re: How do I keep the original bitrate of a file?
Audacity default MP3 bitrate used to be 128. That's safe. For a single pass encoding, that usually enough where most people can't tell it's a compressed file. And yes, it does produce larger files. The sound quality goes down with the bitrate and it goes down a lot faster if you make an MP3 from an ...

Re: Block Auto Noise Reduction
Audacity doesn't apply effects or filters in real time, so that leaves it up to Windows.

Windows voice processing has been known to do that.

Re: Blank sound files after crash, error 126.
After the program crashed Describe the crash. How long is the show? What were you doing to it when it took a dive. Really, Audacity 2.0.6? Most of that log is Audacity complaining about not being able to find some add-ons and is normal. Sometimes we can recover a show if Audacity fell over during f...
