Re: Audiobook editing Hints and Tips

I updated the Audacity notes. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/audacity.html The mastering page is the whole thing. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/ACXMastering/ACXMastering.html I don't think compressor is mentioned at all in there. Many of the older tools and fancy applications went away when Set...

Re: Audiobook editing Hints and Tips

I remember now. AudioBook Processing Tool Notes (Audacity 2.1.0) That's not a how-to. That's just a list of tools I posted because I could never remember the settings. You should never need all of them. I'll change that note. Also, I wrote that before I wrote the Mastering thing and before Steve wro...

Re: Audiobook editing Hints and Tips

That was then. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/ACXMastering/ACXMastering.html Forever we were struggling with tools that could only set two of the three ACX AudioBook standards, Peak and Noise, but not RMS (loudness). And then Steve wrote one. So the process is much shorter now (although it doesn't s...

Re: "Normalize" discrepancy

Or the more modern "adjust seasoning to taste."

1dB can get you into trouble if you produce highly compressed MP3 versions for your Personal Music Player. That compression can soak up your 1dB safety zone leaving no protection.

Re: Project Broken into hundreds of .au files

Thousands of little AU files is a Project. You are not supposed to be looking around inside the _DATA folder. You are supposed to double click the AUP file and the AUP file knows how to put all that back together again. So search the machine for an AUP file with the same name as your _DATA folder. T...

Re: Dragging/opening files

drag files into the Audacity window. What kind of files specifically? You can also Right-Click > Open With, Control-Click > Open With and File > Import. So there's no shortage of ways to open a sound file. ... ... I can't either, so it may be something that happened in Audacity 2.1.2. Koz

Re: "Normalize" discrepancy

-1dB and should be tweaked up to -3dB? It's down to -3dB. Maximum volume is 0dB sound gets quieter as the numbers increase. We'll make a note of that. It's very difficult to hear a 2dB shift in volume, so as a practical matter, you should just be consistent with your work. You are likely to experie...
