Re: Question / Bug Regarding Audio Silence
I'm planning on using Audacity for a scientific project That's the phrase that pays right there. Audacity does things that are theatrically desirable but drive scientists nuts. For one thing, it runs internally at 32-bit Floating, not 16-bit, so it has to convert bit depths going in and coming back...

I think you're too close to the microphone. Your P sounds are popping. That's not a room echo problem.

Let's say no. The panels in your post are about a foot square and to take out a wall for sound interference, you have to cover it. Note in the illustration, the whole wall behind the performer is either panels or heavy drapes. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/ProAnnouncerStudioSoundproofing.jpg I ...

Re: USB mic loud white noise
I can force the test clip to pass technical quality standards, but it would never pass voice quality. Every time you take a breath or pause it sounds like a bad cellphone—talking into a milk jug. You said it doesn't have noise processing. The information says it does. Uses a patented audio filter to...

Re: USB mic loud white noise
For best recording level, the Audacity gradient sound meters should occasionally peak up to about -6dB, the yellow region (You may have one or two blue waves). http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/AudacityRecording-650w.jpg This can be rough for USB microphones because almost all of them record lo...

Re: apply audio filter when recording? possible ?
Audacity famously doesn't apply filters, effects or corrections in real time. About the only thing it does in real time is the Timer function. It's a post-production editor.

Re: Will Studio Soundproof Absorption Foam help audio
Instead of working blind, could you post a short sound clip? http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/TestClip/Record_A_Clip.html If it's a big enough room, you may be able to do well with microphone placement. One poster went back to her large, open-plan office after everybody went home and they turned o...

Re: Generate tone
Those aren't harmonics. That's just sloppy analysis. Crank up the "Size" value as far as it will go. You may also need to pull the analysis window wider to see it.

Re: USB mic loud white noise
You must be doing something wrong. That sound file has a -76dB noise level and easily passes AudioBook noise specifications. If you post something again, post some voice along with it. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/TestClip/Record_A_Clip.html It's possible not that your noise is too high, but y...
