Re: SPL and Audacity
There's a cyclical, recursive way to do it. You calibrate your microphone against your DB SPL meter and then don't change anything while you use it. http://kozco.com/pix/SoundLevelMeter.jpg I don't know that SPL is going to tell you very much anyway. The goal is to stop echoes inside and stop sound ...

Re: LF Rolloff for speech
I would call it the difference between Disaster Recovery and Graceful Vocal Processing. In its original form (I don't think it's called LF-Rolloff any more, but I don't remember the settled-on name) it had the "length" Equalization optional slider all the way up. In this form, the tool is ...

Re: Recording from Avermedia DVD EzMaker7 with Audacity
It may be significant that video runs at 48000 sample rate, not 44100.

Re: Recording from Avermedia DVD EzMaker7 with Audacity
You may need their software to capture a video show and then split off the sound. I have a TV digitizer and I don't think it will process audio only. Does it say it will do that in the instructions?

Re: How could one recording be at a different speed?
You're perfect to confirm a post production rule of thumb, that in general, it takes five times the length of the show to produce it. So if you have an hour show, you're going to be there for five hours putting it together—again, on average. For people who poo-poo this idea it is suggested that it t...

But we won't have to worry about this in 2.1.4....The number of reports of empty saved AUP files went up as soon as we made the AUTOSAVE file a binary file rather than a human-readable XML file. It is a good bet there is a correlation.

Does that qualify as "dark web?" Audacity documentation is cooler than I thought.

Re: Shock mount for use in a restaurant
USB microphones are aggressively convenient. Plug in microphone, announce successful audiobooks or podcasts, retire to a cottage on Majorca. Once your quality standards go up, it becomes less convenient. Any second, I'm going to shoot an interview with a tiny mixer and lavaliers just to see if I can...
